A year ago, our first grandchild, Timothy, was born. His birth was problematic. Timothy had a respiratory issue and was immediately rushed to a special medical unit for treatment. As you can imagine, this was a traumatic time for my daughter, my son-in-law, my wife, and me.

Today, a year later, I’m happy to tell you that Timothy is a happy, healthy one-year-old. He quickly recovered from his respiratory issue. Now he’s almost walking. Recently, watching him waddle, smiling from ear-to-ear, almost brought tears to my eyes.

The other night, I attended a fundraiser for one of our fabulous, long-time clients, March of Dimes. I was reminded of my experience with Timothy at this event. March of Dimes is the iconic nonprofit that helps every child get a fighting chance. They’re leading the fight against premature births. They’re the ones that help babies struggling in ICUs. They comfort parents in their time of need. And they inspire millions of people to appreciate these unique challenges. In a world where more than half of all pregnancies are unplanned, their work is sorely needed.

At the March of Dimes event, I had the chance to meet their new CEO, Stacey Stewart — a smart, experienced executive who will surely bring the organization to new heights. I was also reminded, at a deeper level, of the critical role March of Dimes plays in the world — and for amazing kids like my Timothy.

Every child deserves a great start — and thanks to the people of March of Dimes, more of these wonderful children’s stories have a happy ending, too.
