microphone shutterstock_305848433Fundraising is never easy, be it for a nonprofit organization or a political campaign.

Every presidential election year, we see certain candidates break from the pack. Their fundraising success is broad and deep. These candidates are not always the most experienced or well known to begin with, yet they — those who unleash passion — do extremely well. Frequently their arguments are not rooted in technical details; instead they focus on broad themes that are emotionally galvanizing.

As you consider driving improved fundraising performance, I ask you to consider which overriding messages are particularly compelling in 2016. Is there something that you can learn from this year’s political process that is adaptable for your needs? Maybe you want to get together with some of your colleagues today and debate these questions.
